Travellers using the popular Maputo–KaNyaka (Inhaca Island) ferry route will soon have to pay more for their journey. New tariffs announced by Transmarítima are scheduled to come into effect on Monday, 15 June 2026, affecting residents, tourists, commuters and businesses that rely on the maritime connection between Maputo and KaNyaka.
Why Are Prices Increasing?
According to Transmarítima, the fare adjustment is intended to help cover rising operational costs, particularly fuel expenses, which have a significant impact on maritime transport. The company argues that the revision is necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of the service and the continued operation of the route.
The increase comes at a time when KaNyaka and Inhaca Island continue to attract growing numbers of domestic and international visitors, making the ferry one of the most important transport links in Maputo Bay.

Current Ferry Timetable
Based on the latest publicly available schedules, the KaNyaka ferry generally operates on the following days:
| Day | Departure from Maputo | Return from Inhaca |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 08:00 | 15:00 |
| Wednesday | 08:00 | 15:00 |
| Friday | 11:00 | 15:00 |
| Saturday | 08:00 | 15:00 |
| Sunday | 08:00 | 15:00 |
The crossing typically takes around two hours, depending on sea conditions and operational requirements. Travellers are advised to arrive at least 30–60 minutes before departure and to confirm schedules in advance, as occasional changes may occur due to maintenance, weather conditions or special operational notices.
Impact on Tourism and Residents
The fare increase is likely to have mixed reactions. While the operator argues that higher prices are necessary to keep the service running efficiently, residents and regular commuters may face higher transport costs. Tourism operators, guesthouses, guides and visitors planning day trips to Inhaca Island may also need to adjust their budgets accordingly.
For many travellers, however, the KaNyaka ferry remains one of the most affordable and scenic ways to experience one of Mozambique's most beautiful island destinations, offering stunning views of Maputo Bay and direct access to the beaches, marine life and cultural attractions of Inhaca.
